What kind of port is Tokyo Port?
Tokyo Port is the gateway to Tokyo, the capital city. To accommodate increasingly larger cruise ships, the Tokyo International Cruise Terminal opened in September 2020. Meanwhile, the Harumi Passenger Ship Terminal, which had been receiving cruise ships since 1991, was temporarily closed in 2020 and will reopen in November 2025 after renovations. Currently, there are two terminals: the Tokyo International Cruise Terminal for large ships and the Harumi Passenger Ship Terminal for medium and small ships. The port is managed by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Bureau of Port and Harbor, and the terminals are operated by Tokyo Port Terminal Corporation.
The Odaiba area, where the Tokyo International Cruise Terminal is located, is home to numerous commercial facilities and parks, offering views of the Rainbow Bridge and the city skyline. The Harumi Passenger Ship Terminal is conveniently located near Ginza and Tsukiji, making it ideal for sightseeing in central Tokyo.
